MSPI

If you read our two month update you'd know what has been going on. We had a diagnosis of silent reflux and that was all. Even on the most broken down milk based formulas Makenzie was still having trouble with what everyone said was reflux. She had been on every medication made for babies with reflux. And nothing was working. Finally a nutritionist said to try this formula made for babies with reflux. So I did. Mac ended up with a blotchy chest and runny nose. There was the allergy rearing it's head. She had NEVER had a reaction to anything. I called the doctor immediately to let him know our discovery. He knew exactly what was going on. He gave us a few cans of EleCare and said if this doesn't work we'll need to do some tests to see if there is something physically wrong in her digestive system. EleCare is an amino acid based formula. No milk, no soy. If it worked we'd know what was going on. We're on day number eight and we have a completely different baby!

Dr.Baker officially diagnosised Makenzie with milk soy protein intolerance.
Here are a few websites to describe MSPI:

FPIES

PIC

Food Intolerance

After reading through some information on MSPI I realized Makenzie had most of the symptoms including the exsema type rash on her forehead. The only thing she didn't have was the weight loss. She ate for comfort. That's why no one picked up on it.

But now we have a happy, healthy baby who will hopefully grow out of this by age one. If not, we have a long road ahead of us! We have to delay giving her food until 6 months and she has to eat things in a certain way. More than likely I'll make all her food just so we don't have cross contamination. At one we can try soy milk. If she still is having a reaction then we'll need to reevaluate and find recipes to keep her healthy. Hopefully she grows out of this!!
